Pet Preservation

A call with our taxidermist is required before making plans for alternative aftercare services. A phone meeting with the taxidermist allows you to express your goals and desires. It is important to note that no request is too unusual. You are invited into a safe space to make requests that suit your needs. Our taxidermist will be honest about their abilities to fulfill your request.

EXPECTATIONS: The decision to select taxidermy services is deeply personal and strictly voluntary. We promise to do our best to communicate our abilities. We would never take on a project that we didn’t feel confident in completing with great care and precision. Every taxidermy project requires multiple conversations with our taxidermist. We ask that you communicate your desires and goals as clearly as possible. In return, we promise to reiterate your desires and goals back to you to ensure that our understanding of your project is clear. Taxidermy is an art form. It is important to be realistic about your expectations when it comes to choosing taxidermy services. Being realistic about taxidermy services means understanding that the service of your choice may not turn out exactly as expected.

INSECT PREVENTION AND CONTROL:

Insect damage is horrible, It is also easily prevented. The two insects responsible for this are tiny carpet beetles or moths. These are the same bugs found in food pantries, carpets, and closets. They come in grain products such as dog or cat food. Besides eating wool carpets and clothes, these insects can ruin taxidermy animals and pelts. The larvae eat the tiny end of a hair follicle, causing hair loss. In the moth or beetle stage, they are not harmful. Prevention is always a good practice. You can use bug foggers or any moth-proofing spray that is safe for clothing. Spray a light mist all over the pet or pelt and gently comb into the hair. On fur-bearing animals, the fur can be fluffed back using a hairdryer on the cool setting. If you notice any bug damage or find “rice-crispy” looking sheds, take the pelt or animal outside and spray it down with a bug killer and seal it in a plastic bag overnight.
